Born in early 2010 in the Nice region of France, the brand 1789 Cala revisits classic trainers with styles conceived, designed, and created in the Basque countryside. The first 1789 Cala collection, the “classic,” adapted a traditional espadrille shoe in 22 different “French” colours. The success was immediate: boutiques started selling these shoes straight away. One year after the brand was created, 20 boutiques already distributed the 1789 Cala espadrilles. The same year, the brand continued developing its signature by investing in its own moulds for shoe soles bearing the names of different French Riviera Cities like Monte Carlo, St. Tropez, and Cannes as an invitation to travel! The line then expanded with the “Créateur” collection of luxurious original leather styles with an urban inspiration. This collection of carefully crafted lines featuring moccasins, desert boots and even gladiator sandals was still made in France. Today, following its second participation in Who’s Next and Pitti Uomo, 140 shops distribute the famous 1789 Cala espadrilles in France and abroad, including shops in Japan, the USA, China, Turkey, Russia, and South Korea!
